Queen Camilla once broke her leg after falling into a hole: Inside her alarming health issues

Queen Camilla has assumed significant responsibilities as her husband, King Charles, receives treatment for his cancer. The couple recently marked their 19th wedding anniversary, and it is hoped that they will enjoy many more years together.

The former Parker-Bowles has experienced a tumultuous journey within the royal family. Once viewed as the “mistress” of the future king and facing considerable disdain from segments of the royal fanbase, Camilla has now emerged as a well-regarded member of the royal family, diligently fulfilling her obligations to the Crown.

Although King Charles has faced various health concerns over the years, there is limited information regarding Queen Camilla’s health issues. She has contracted Covid twice and reportedly suffered a broken toe during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, in addition to having been hospitalized on several occasions throughout her life. Notably, she once fell into a hole in Scotland and was subsequently rescued by local residents.

Camilla’s journey to becoming Queen has been fraught with challenges. Her relationship, particularly her love story, with King Charles began while he was still married to Princess Diana.

Queen Camilla

Charles and Diana officially separated in December 1992. Shortly thereafter, the media released a complete transcript of a telephone conversation between the then-future King and Camilla, which disclosed their relatively intimate and sexual relationship that had begun prior to the separation of Charles and Diana.

This recording garnered international attention; however, as noted in The Diana Chronicles, the individual who recorded it had kept it private for many years.

The public’s response was largely negative. Princess Diana was a beloved national figure, and the notion of Charles betraying her trust and causing her distress was met with widespread disapproval.

The scandal implicated the future king, and his remarks, such as “live inside her trousers,” were deemed shocking and inappropriate.

While Charles faced significant backlash, Camilla was not exempt from criticism. Reports indicated that both the public and members of the royal family condemned her actions, particularly as she was perceived as “the one who destroyed Charles and Diana’s marriage.”

The phone call, which occurred in 1989, unequivocally confirmed that Charles had been involved in an affair with Camilla while still married to Diana. Additionally, it revealed that Camilla had also been unfaithful to her husband, Andrew Parker Bowles.

Camilla had to endure “torrents” of mistreatment from the public

In 2018, investigative author and journalist Tom Bower reported that initially, Queen Elizabeth II was reluctant to engage with Camilla. It is alleged that King Charles confronted his mother, urging her to “soften her antagonism” to allow him to live openly with Camilla. This request, however, reportedly did not resonate well with the queen, who reacted with anger towards Charles.

Camilla faced significant challenges in gaining acceptance from Queen Elizabeth following her official relationship with Charles. Years prior, when their affair became public knowledge, Camilla largely withdrew from the public eye due to the negative treatment she received.

In an interview with OK Magazine, royal expert Angela Levin, author of the 2022 book Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: A Royal Survivor, noted that Camilla endured severe public mistreatment as the affair was exposed. Levin stated that Camilla was compelled to remain at home for the most part to evade public backlash.

Furthermore, Levin indicated that Camilla was apprehensive about going out for shopping or visiting stores, often relying on friends to run errands on her behalf.

“It was extremely challenging for her, as she was depicted as the most malevolent woman in the world. She was frequently subjected to derogatory names such as ‘rottweiler,’ and it must have been a tremendous shock for her to realize how cruel people could be,” Levin remarked at that time.

Royal expert highlights a poignant aspect of the relationship between Kate Middleton and Camilla, stating, “It can never be quite the same.” The recent controversies involving Harry and Meghan have reportedly strengthened the bonds among Kate, William, Charles, and Camilla. The expert noted, “I believe Charles was unaware of the difficulties she faced. He was frequently occupied with engagements and dedicated to his duties for the country and the Commonwealth. At that time, Camilla lacked protection officers as she was not yet a member of the Royal Family. However, once Charles became aware of the situation, he arranged for her protection, personally covering the costs.”

Camilla became increasingly popular among the public as the years went by. Even so, Angela Levin suspected she “must still bear the scars of it all.”

Queen Camilla – health issues

Queen Camilla has demonstrated her resilience today, despite bearing the “scars” of her past. As King Charles undergoes treatment for cancer, she has assumed a significant amount of responsibility in his absence.

While Queen Camilla has been an invaluable member of the royal family, she has also faced health challenges, much like many individuals. Reflecting on her life, it is evident that she has encountered a variety of experiences, both positive and negative.

At 76 years old and with a demanding schedule, it is understandable that she has faced some health concerns. Reports indicate that she has experienced troubling symptoms while fulfilling her royal duties, raising some concerns among observers.

For many years, Camilla has been an advocate for osteoporosis awareness. She became the president of the Royal Osteoporosis Society in 2001, having made her first donation to the organization in 1997. Her commitment to this cause is deeply rooted in her family history.

According to the Mayo Clinic, osteoporosis is a condition that leads to weakened and brittle bones, making them susceptible to fractures from falls or even minor stresses such as bending or coughing. The clinic notes that fractures related to osteoporosis most frequently occur in the hip, wrist, or spine.

Bone is a dynamic living tissue that undergoes continuous processes of breakdown and regeneration. Osteoporosis arises when the formation of new bone fails to match the rate of old bone loss.

Is Queen Camilla at risk of getting osteoporosis?

In 1994, Queen Camilla experienced the profound loss of her mother due to complications arising from osteoporosis. Additionally, her grandmother also succumbed to the same illness. In 2019, Camilla addressed the Royal Osteoporosis Society, sharing her personal connection to the disease.

During her speech in 2019, she stated, “It was 25 years ago that my mother died as a result of osteoporosis. In fact, she was exactly the same age that I am now. Then it was never discussed, rarely diagnosed, and always attributed to old people.”

While Queen Camilla is committed to advocating for a cure, it is concerning that she may be at risk of developing the condition herself.

The Mayo Clinic indicates that having a parent or close relative with osteoporosis heightens one’s own risk of the disease. In an interview with Express, David Wiener, a training and nutrition specialist at the AI-based fitness and lifestyle coaching app Freeletics, noted that Camilla engages in both yoga and pilates, exercises that are beneficial for her age group to mitigate muscular pain.

“Camilla has openly expressed her enthusiasm for yoga and pilates, which I would recommend for individuals in her age bracket,” Wiener remarked.

“As one ages, it is not surprising that less strenuous exercise is advisable, as more intense activities may lead to muscular pain and increased fragility of the bones.”
